Ulster Unionist Party Leader Jon Burrows MLA has welcomed today's announcement of £4 million in emergency funding for the PSNI.

Jon burrows MLA said:

“I welcome today's announcement of £4 million in emergency funding for the PSNI. We raised this matter directly with the Secretary of State, who said he would consider it, and it is right that the UK Government has now acted. This funding must now reach our police service without delay to cover the significant costs incurred during the disorder, including Mutual Aid support and officer overtime.

“The PSNI has been pushed to its limit in recent weeks, responding to the horrific attack on Stephen Ogilvie while simultaneously confronting shameful scenes of disorder and racially motivated violence on our streets. Our officers put themselves in harm's way to protect every community in Northern Ireland, and they deserve nothing less than our full and unequivocal support. This funding is welcome, but it is also long overdue given the pressures our police service has faced.”
