Ulster Unionists welcome City status for Bangor
The Ulster Unionist Party has welcomed the news that Bangor has been awarded City status as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
North Down MLA Alan Chambers said:
“The awarding of City status to Bangor as part of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations is fantastic news which will be a welcome boost to the local area.
“It is a well deserved honour that will assist the regeneration plans in place for our latest city and congratulations are due to all those who have played their part in preparing the bid.
“Bangor has long enjoyed a good relationship with the Royal Family as evidenced by a number of visits over the years and there is huge civic pride that the Queen has chosen Bangor for this award in the year of her Platinum Jubilee.”
Bangor Councillor Craig Blaney said:
“I very much welcome the awarding of City status to Bangor. When combined with the recent announcements on progress on the Queen’s Parade development, the Belfast Region City Deal and the proposed redevelopment of the Flagship Centre, the news that Bangor is to be granted City status is the icing on the cake that tops off a great year for Bangor in terms of investment and regeneration.
“Bangor’s transformation heralds lots of exciting opportunities, particularly for the younger generation. As someone who has lived in Bangor my whole life I am more excited than ever about what the future holds.”
