Ulster Unionist Party launches campaign setting out why the Union is better

The Ulster Unionist Party has launched a six-day campaign across its social media channels setting out why Northern Ireland is better off within the United Kingdom.

Running until Thursday 29 October, the campaign makes five arguments for the Union: our shared national security, a lower cost of living, protecting our peace, a health service free at the point of use, and greater economic security. It closes by celebrating what Northern Ireland brings to the Union, from the food our farmers produce to our world-class cyber security and screen industries.

Ulster Unionist Party Leader Jon Burrows MLA said:

“The Ulster Unionist Party will not simply defend the Union. We will actively promote it. That means explaining with confidence why Northern Ireland’s place in the United Kingdom matters and how it benefits people in their everyday lives.

“Our campaign sets out that positive case: the security we share, the stability that protects our peace, the strength of belonging to one of the world’s largest economies, a lower cost of living and an NHS free at the point of use. A typical household here pays over £550 a year less for gas and electricity than in the Republic.

“This is also about what Northern Ireland brings to the Union. Our farmers and food producers contribute to the United Kingdom’s food security. Our skilled workforce, innovative businesses and manufacturing expertise strengthen our shared economy. We have much to offer and every reason to be ambitious.

“The case for the Union must speak to people’s hopes for themselves, their families and their future. We will earn support by making that case clearly and showing how Northern Ireland can thrive within the United Kingdom. The Ulster Unionist Party is determined to lead that argument.”
