About Lord Empey
Lord Empey has been a member of the House of Lords since 2011 and led the Ulster Unionist Party from 2005 to 2010. He represented East Belfast in the Northern Ireland Assembly from 1998 to 2011.
He served as Lord Mayor of Belfast in 1989–1990 and 1993–1994, as Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment from 1999 to 2002, and as Minister for Employment and Learning from 2007 to 2010.
