Butler Raises Concerns Over German Foot and Mouth Outbreak

Ulster Unionist Party Chair of the Agriculture Environment and Rural Affairs (AERA) committee, Robbie Butler has contacted the AERA Minister seeking urgent clarification on the steps he and his department are taking to protect Northern Ireland from a reported Foot and Mouth outbreak in Germany.

The Lagan Valley MLA commented.

“The news of confirmed foot and mouth disease outbreak in Germany is a genuine cause for concern for all.

“That England Scotland and Wales have quickly introduced measures to protect farmers in those regions, the implementation of the Windsor Framework means that no such protections are in place for Farmers and their livelihoods in Northern Ireland.”

“I have raised, as a matter of urgency, my concerns with the Minister and asked him to outline his plan to address this worrying development.”
