Burrows rejects call for dissident deal as PSNI marks 25 years

Ulster Unionist Party Leader Jon Burrows MLA has rejected a call by former Policing Board vice chair Denis Bradley for a deal with dissident republicans, as the PSNI marks its 25th anniversary.

Jon Burrows MLA a former PSNI superintendent, said:

“I reject Denis Bradley’s call for a deal with dissident republicans. This is 2026. There should be no deals with people who want to murder and maim. Nobody should need the permission of terrorists to join the police.

“Confidence in the rule of law is already under pressure, and comments like these do not help. The PSNI needs our full backing, proper funding and enough officers to do the job. Policing should never be used as a political football.

“On the PSNI’s 25th anniversary, I pay tribute to the men and women who have served in a difficult and dangerous job. We remember the officers who lost their lives, those injured in service and the families who still carry that loss. We are grateful for the long nights and unsociable hours they have worked to keep us safe.

“We must also remember the service and sacrifice of the Royal Ulster Constabulary GC. Their courage through the darkest of times must never be forgotten.”
