Doug Beattie MC MLA said 'The news of Boris Johnson's resignation will be celebrated by many and mourned by some. However, the sad reality is that the damage done to the United Kingdom was caused by  Boris Johnson's conduct while in the office of the Prime Minister.

The United Kingdom is trying to rebuild its reputation and relationships across the globe. Yet here in Northern Ireland we are struggling to reverse the Northern Ireland Protocol that was the result of very bad negotiations by  the UK Government under his premiership. 

Boris Johnson must take responsibility for this and although it was Partygate that was his eventual downfall it is the damage to the Union that should be remembered most'.
