Allen calls on Communities Minister to provide a housing update

East Belfast Ulster Unionist Party MLA and Communities Spokesperson, Andy Allen MBE, has called on the Minister for Communities to provide a written update on the various strands of work being undertaken by the department on housing and homelessness.

Mr Allen said:

"Earlier today I met with several representatives from the housing sector to discuss various aspects of housing and the important need to tackle the housing crisis head on.

“Across Northern Ireland there are over 44,000 individuals and families on housing waiting lists, many of whom have been on this list for several years, with little prospect of being offered a home unless we adequately invest in delivering a fit-for-purpose housing model.

“There is no doubt the lack of a functioning Executive will inhibit the Department, especially when it comes to budget certainty. However, we cannot allow stagnation, therefore, it is imperative the department continues to develop proposals and solutions.

“In the absence of an Assembly, I would call on the Minister to provide a written update on the work the department is currently undertaking."
