£280 Million Boost from The Open Must Be a Springboard for Future Growth

Economy Spokesperson Diana Armstrong MLA has commented on the newly released figures showing that The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush generated over £280 million in economic benefit for Northern Ireland.

Diana Armstrong MLA said,

"It’s simply brilliant to hear that The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush has generated over £280 million in economic benefit for Northern Ireland. This is a landmark achievement, not just for our tourism and hospitality sectors, but for the entire Northern Ireland economy.

“This figure is a testament to what Northern Ireland can deliver on the global stage. From world-class golf to stunning landscapes and warm hospitality, we have proven once again that we are capable of hosting major international events that bring lasting economic and reputational benefits.

“But this must not be the end of the story; it must be the beginning of a renewed commitment to strategic investment in tourism and infrastructure. We must build on this success, ensuring that future events continue to deliver for local communities, businesses, and workers across Northern Ireland.

“The Open has shown what is possible when ambition meets opportunity. The Minister’s tourism plan must put Golf tourism front and centre.”
