George Savage MLA

George Savage has been a lifelong member of the Ulster Unionist Party and was elected to Craigavon Borough Council in 1982, serving as Mayor from 1985-1987 and again in 2005. He currently sits on the Council's Development and Policy & Resources Committees. He is also a member of the SWaMP Committee. George is a NILGA Member and sits on the Board of Shankill (Lurgan) Community Projects and is a Board Member of the Lagan Canal Restoration Trust.

From 1998-2003 George served in the First Mandate of the Northern Ireland Assembly and was re-elected to the Assembly in March 2007. George currently sits on the Committee for Agriculture & Rural Development and the Committee on Standards & Privileges and was a member of the Ad-hoc Committee on Postal Services. George also serves as Secretary to the All-Party Group on Autism and Treasurer of the All-Party Group on Rural Sustainability.

As a lifelong farmer, agriculture has always been a matter close to his heart, whilst he also takes a keen interest in Education and European issues. George is a member of the East-West Institute's Parliamentarians Network for Conflict Prevention and Human Security, based in Brussels. Closer to home, George serves as Chairman of the Board of Governors of Donacloney Primary School and is Chairman of the Iveagh Farmers Group. He is also Chairman of Donacloney Royal British Legion and holds membership of the Orange Order, Royal Black Preceptory and the Apprentice Boys of Derry.

George is married to Joy and they have three grown-up sons.
