Donaldson's time better spent in personal contemplation

23/03/2010

Basil McCreaUlster Unionist policing spokesperson Basil McCrea has said that "it is certainly entertaining to see Jeffery Donaldson back in action, even if it is only to throw stones from his glass house".

"Can Jeffrey tell us why he thinks Mr Ford is the ideal Minister of Justice? Would he care to tell us what he thinks about Mr Ford's assertions that the Parachute Regiment acted 'unlawfully' on Bloody Sunday?

"That timely outburst aside, David Ford is simply not entitled to the Justice Ministry. Gerrymandering him into office shows no respect for the democratically expressed will of the electorate.

"What gives Jeffrey the idea that he and the DUP can dictate how the UUP should vote on any given matter? It might be considered audacious if it wasn't so ludicrous.

"The fundamental problem with the Assembly is that it is run by diktat of a two-party coalition that is more interested in sharing out the spoils than in the proper government of Northern Ireland for all the people.

"The UUP is a democratic Party and will meet to consider the matter on Monday, April 12. Until then Jeffrey would do better to consider the inconsistencies in his own personal position - as he sits side-by-side with people he was once committed to oppose - rather than indulging in idle speculation.

"If Jeffrey would like to debate his personal and Party inconsistencies in greater detail, I am available for comment."
