Ulster Unionist member of the Assembly health committee, Sam Gardiner MLA, has voiced his support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, saying that "keeping this devastating disease in the public eye is vital".
"This October I would encourage everyone to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, by engaging in one of the many events, donating or even buying those products that donate a percentage of their profits to this most worthwhile of causes," the Upper Bann MLA said.
"This is not just a matter of raising money, but an opportunity to raise awareness, promote education and let those affected know that they are at the forefront of our minds.
"I would encourage men and women alike to be aware of the signs of breast cancer and report any changes to your GP immediately - this increases the chance of early detection and better results from treatment."
