Bob StokerUlster Unionist Belfast City councillor Bob Stoker has welcomed the announcement of plans to re-develop the Village area of the city.

"The Minister's announcement that she has taken on board the recommendations from the Independent Inspector is most welcome. News that the re-development is to go ahead will give local residents much to look forward to in 2010.

"As councillor for the area I am delighted by the confirmation that moves will be made to bring to an end the uncertainty over the area's future.

"All those living in unfit homes will, at last, have something to look forward to in the New Year."

Cllr Stoker continued: "A joined-up approach to the re-generation project is essential, with the Housing Executive, Belfast City Council and the inhabitants of the area working together to drive this forward. All stakeholders must work together to ensure a total, inclusive package for regeneration that extends beyond providing new houses, looking at the wider issues of the local economy and facilities.

"This process must also ensure that home owners in particular are not left at any financial disadvantage."
