Kesh armed robbery condemned

Tom ElliottUlster Unionist MLA, Tom Elliott, has condemned the armed gang who robbed a bank in the village of Kesh on Friday. This robbery follows on from an incident last weekend when a family in the nearby village of Belleek suffered injuries after armed robbers broke into their home and stole a number of their possessions.

In a statement, the Fermanagh and South Tyrone representative said: "This robbery is a complete and utter disgrace and will be condemned by all right thinking individuals. We all ask ourselves what sort of people carry out these acts. In my opinion the individuals involved can be simply summed up as degenerates. They are people who are devoid of all moral decency and who obviously have no consideration for human life when they are happy to burst into premises and start waving guns around and issuing threats to innocent people."

"Understandably, the incident has shocked residents and members of the staff who were in the Northern Bank which was targeted. However, I have no doubt that members of the local community will react positively and come together to support those who have suffered this terrible ordeal and indeed keep an eye on each other properties as good neighbours who are keen to see those who carried out the robbery caught and prosecuted for their actions."

With this attack in Kesh now adding to the previous attack in Belleek, Mr Elliott urged local people to remain vigilant and make sure that they check the protection measures they have in place at their homes.

He said: "I would once again call on people to check their security at home and make sure that they have precautions in place, be that in the form of an alarm or simply spreading word amongst neighbours to be vigilant. The PSNI will be doing their utmost to catch the robbers and I would urge anyone who may have information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to bring it forward as it may help them with their investigation."

"It is vital that we work together to catch these criminals and bring them to justice."
