The local Councillor said: "I am appalled by the reckless actions of the idiots who attacked the gritting lorry at the junction of West Street and Main Street, Ballycarry last night. DRD Roads Service are now considering withdrawing their service from the village as a result.

Ironically I spent a considerable amount of time on Monday and Tuesday asking the Roads Service to extend their gritting service in the area. There have been complaints about the dangerous state of the Hillhead Road, just off the gritting route- which ends at the Presbyterian Church.

I have requested a modest extension of the gritting route to cover the steep sloop on the Hillhead road just outside Ballycarry village heading towards Magheramorne, and extra salt/ grit piles left on the verges.

However arguments I have made for an expansion to the winter service in and around Ballycarry have been undermined by the actions of a few idiots standing on a street corner on Tuesday night. "
