Ulster Unionist Lagan Valley MLA Basil McCrea has described Education Minister Caitriona Ruane's report 'Together Towards Entitlement' as 'underwhelming' saying that it contains no new information.
Commenting on the issue, the UUP education spokesperson said; "You cannot have an area based plan until you have decided the number of grammar schools, Irish-medium schools, integrated schools you are going to have. This report did nothing more than highlight the problems and does nothing to solve them."
"The report did not come to any conclusions - all it did was show them why they cannot come to any conclusions. What was inconsistent in the report is that Minister Ruane called for diversity and choice within the education system - yet when it comes to the matter of selection she insists on a one size fits all."
What many have also ignored is the fact this particular report was also published back in July however the Minister has only responded to it now - it is clear that it has not been priority for her.
The Ulster Unionist Party will continue to do all it can to promote educational achievement in Northern Ireland.
