David McNarry MLA, Ulster Unionist Party Spokesperson for Finance and Personnel has described his amazement at Sammy Wilson's admission that the DUP are lacking in a long-term economic policies. Mr Wilson made the confession when delivering a key note speech to an investment conference in Dundalk.
In a statement Mr. McNarry said:
"With the Finance Minister Sammy Wilson and the Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster, the DUP is supposed to be leading Northern Ireland's economic recovery. Sammy Wilson's admittance that "we have not done enough to advance long-term economic growth", is an admission that the DUP has failed".
"It's not as if Sammy has not been told repeatedly about our problems. When is he going to tell the Northern Ireland Assembly what he told the Republic of Ireland.
"The people of Northern Ireland continue to suffer because of the recent recession and for a DUP Finance Minister to admit that it is "difficult to find any new policies" is extremely worrying".
"Fortunately the Ulster Unionist Party is not lacking in economic vision. Working with our Conservative colleagues we are committed to developing Northern Ireland as an enterprise zone. Such a tax reducing move could transform our local economy, attracting foreign investment, boosting growth in our small and medium sized businesses and being a catalyst for innovation".
"We have a well educated, committed population and top class businesses - what we need are the correct policies that will allow our economy to flourish.
