DUP and Sinn Fein prop each other up in financial farce.

David McNarryDavid McNarry MLA, Ulster Unionist Party Spokesperson for Finance and Personnel has accused the DUP and Sinn Fein of propping each other up in financial denial by rejecting an Ulster Unionist Party amendment to a DUP finance motion in the Assembly today.

In a statement Mr McNarry said:

"The DUP tabled a dangerous motion today which suggested to the people of Northern Ireland that they may not have to face reductions in the block grant in the next Comprehensive Spending Review. Their motion was is stark contradiction to public announcements by both Sammy Wilson the Finance Minister and Peter Robinson First Minister".

"We attempted to bring some reality to the proceedings today but unfortunately the DUP and Sinn Fein are quite happy to play Alice in Wonderland politics and to play fast and loose with all of our futures. We need to prepare for a reduction in public spending. The Labour Government's mismanagement of the national economy means we are facing the worst national debt since the Second World War.

"That is why we called for an Assembly Budgetary Review Committee to start planning for the future in a co-ordinated and consensual manner. Not to do so would be a dereliction of duty. What the DUP said today was that they are quite happy to keep their heads in the sand".

"I think the people of Northern Ireland are more mature and clued in than the DUP have given them credit for. People realise that we have tough decisions to make due to the national debt. I only wish that the DUP would show the same adult behaviour".
