South Antrim MLA, Danny Kinahan, has commented following today’s conviction of a suspect in relation to the murder of two soldiers at Massereene Barracks in March 2009.
The Ulster Unionist said:
“The murder of the two young soldiers, Sappers Patrick Azimkar and Mark Quinsey, was a reprehensible act which quite rightly received widespread condemnation.’
“Given that the murders occurred in March 2009, it has already taken a significant amount of time to get this case to Court. I welcome the fact, as would all right thinking citizens, that there has been a conviction in respect of someone who took part in the murder of young men serving their country and about to go to Afghanistan and risk their lives for all our sakes.’
“My thoughts and those of the Ulster Unionist Party are with the families at this difficult time and I sincerely hope that they can take some comfort from the fact that someone will serve a lengthy prison sentence for this cowardly crime.’
